Multi-vehicle wreck leaves 1 dead

California Highway Patrol reports that a three-car accident just outside of Healdsburg in unincorporated Sonoma County on Aug. 10 claimed the life of a Vacaville man. Another motorist involved suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries.

The fatal crash occurred on Alexander Valley Road about 10 a.m. as the 41-year-old Vacaville man was driving a Honda Accord eastbound in the westbound lane. An Indiana man operating a westbound 2012 GMC Yukon attempted to avoid colliding with the Honda by veering to the right. However, both vehicles sideswiped each other and the Honda then collided head on with a 2012 Kia that was traveling westbound behind the Yukon.

The force of the impact killed the Honda driver and injured the Kia driver, a 41-year-old woman from Woodland. An ambulance arrived at the scene and transported her to Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital where she was treated for serious injuries. When they responded to the scene, highway officials closed a portion of Alexander Valley Road in both directions for more than two hours. The investigation into the crash was ongoing and police did not officially rule out if drugs or alcohol contributed to the deadly wreck.

Those who have been injured in a car accident caused by the negligent actions of another driver may want to have the assistance of an attorney in seeking appropriate compensation for their losses. Economic damages could include medical expenses and lost wages, while noneconomic damages could include pain and suffering. If the person who caused the crash died, the lawsuit could name the at-fault motorist's estate as a defendant.
