Redondo Beach woman causes multi-fatality accident

While all auto collisions have the potential to cause serious injuries, drunk driving accidents can be particularly violent. Factors like excessive speeds and erratic driving can contribute significantly to the nature and severity of DUI-related accidents, and often result in multiple accident victims. A recent fatal car accident resulted in criminal allegations and illustrates just how profoundly innocent lives can be affected by people’s poor decisions.

More than 10 ambulances responded to an accident scene in Redondo Beach, after one vehicle and several pedestrians were reportedly struck by a drunk driver. The 56-year-old woman accused of causing the accident was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time, resulting in her being charged with one count of felony injury-related driving under the influence of drugs and four separate counts of felony gross vehicular manslaughter. According to reports, the suspect had a head-on collision with another car after striking several church attendees as they were crossing the street.

Despite the efforts of the suspect’s attorney, her bail was set at $500,000. She reportedly did not have any previous drunk driving offenses on her record, but the woman was described by a friend as taking a significant amount of pain medicine. A six-year-old child, along with his mother and two other people were killed in the collision.
