Multi-vehicle accident in LA kills 1

Los Angeles, California, residents spend hours in traffic every week, and many would agree that the issue of congested freeways only continues to get worse. Not only must motorists be wary of other drivers and motorcycles but they must also contend with an ever increasing number of semi trucks and other large commercial vehicles. Unfortunately, such factors can play a large role in the nature and severity of car accidents that occur on L.A. roadways.

A recent multi-vehicle collision on a local freeway serves as a harrowing example of how a collision incident can quickly become a catastrophic accident. California Highway Patrol officers reported that the incident occurred when a tanker truck struck several vehicles that were attempting to slow down. The impact of the collision caused the tanker truck to hit the center divide. Besides the tanker truck, two semi trucks and nine cars were involved in the accident.

It’s estimated that the crash scene extended the length of two football fields. One of the semi trucks came to a stop in the middle of the road and two vehicles ignited into flames. Three of the 13 people hurt in the accident were reported to have critical injuries. Sadly, a five-year-old girl who was involved in the collision was transported to an area hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The fatal accident was still under investigation and authorities could not confirm the exact factors that contributed to the deadly chain reaction. Accidents of this caliber can result in lifelong difficulties for victims and their families. Speaking with an attorney can be helpful in identifying one’s legal options and rights as a potential personal injury claimant.
