Freeway collision in Corona kills off-duty police officer

Few things offer more thrills then riding one’s motorcycle around the streets of Long Beach. Yet motorcycle ownership definitely comes with a sense of “buyer beware.” While safe and responsible driving will help one to avoid a motorcycle accident, should such an accident ever occur, the rider is offered little in terms of protection. Catastrophic injuries or even death are not uncommon results of such accidents.

Yet it also should be remembered that the drivers of other vehicles on the road are also required to be mindful of the motorcyclists around them. Accident avoidance isn’t limited to a certain type of driver or vehicle, and often, that avoidance includes being cautious when executing even simple maneuvers while driving.

It was during that execution of such a simple driving move that an off-duty police officer was killed in Corona recently. Another vehicle struck the officer on his motorcycle while merging onto the freeway. The collision threw the officer off of his bike and into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Investigators are now seeking witnesses to the accident to determine what caused the vehicle and the motorcycle to collide. The officer’s death was the only accident casualty reported. He leaves behind a wife and three young children.

Little can assuage a family’s grief in the wake of such an accident, and that grief is often compounded if it’s determined that another’s negligence was the cause of their loved one’s death. In such an event, the family may choose to seek compensation from the driver responsible in the form of a lawsuit. A personal injury attorney may be good source of assistance in initiating such action.
