Smart reminders for post-accident actions

Southern California roads and freeways are among the busiest and most congested in the nation. Automobile accidents can happen any day, on any type of road and the results of a car accident can be minor or severe with long-lasting impact on victims. It is easy to think logically about what you should do when an accident happens but reminders are always helpful because in the moments following a crash, it is normal to feel confused and upset, making it more likely that you may forget important things.

That was the focus of one recent news article that provided a good refresher on post-collision steps to take. Certainly at the top of the list is to pull over to a place on the road or a nearby parking lot or other area that is safe and does not block traffic. Of course, if you are in a more serious accident, this may not be possible but should be done when it is possible. Tending to any minor or serious injury by calling for emergency help is a must.

For any accident in which you believe you are at fault, do not indicate that to the other driver. Leave fault and compensation to the professionals. While waiting for police or other help to arrive, use a camera, phone or tablet to take photos of the scene as these can be helpful for any accident investigation.

No matter the reason for or nature of your accident, always follow the right steps, including filing a police report. Discussing your case with an attorney may also be helpful for you and allow you better chances of obtaining the damages due to you.
