Alcohol a factor in fatal Lodi car accident

Car accidents in Long Beach often have tragic results. That tragedy is often compounded if it’s discovered that the accident could have been avoided if not for negligence on the part of the responsible party. While little can be done to fill the emotional loss of a family member or friend, or to ease the pain of those suffering from injuries obtained during an accident, earning compensation from the responsible party or his or her insurance company can help to meet medical expenses and make up for lost wages, or to help provide for those who lost someone to whom they looked to as a provider in the accident.

Such negligence appears to have been a factor in a recent multi-car accident in Lodi. Police believe that the young man responsible for the accident had been drinking prior to striking a Ford F-150 truck with his GMC Yukon. The smell of alcohol was detected on the man as he lay pinned in his vehicle. A subsequent police investigation of his home revealed that he and his father had been drinking vodka prior to his driving away. He was also estimated to be speeding at the time of collision. The suspect remains in critical condition. Sadly, 5 of the 6 family members traveling in the F-150 were killed, with the sixth, a 9-year-old boy, also being in critical condition.

While the driver in this or any similar scenario will almost certainly face criminal penalties for his or her actions, victims and family members may also choose to pursue civil action on their own. Those looking to initiate such a lawsuit may wish to first consult with a personal injury attorney to discuss how they should proceed.
