Illegal U-turn leads to deadly crash in Los Angeles

There are important reasons why U-turns are illegal on certain roads in California; crossing oncoming traffic can be extremely risky and dangerous. Some people may believe that making a U-turn is worth the risk, but as one man recently learned, such actions can have deadly consequences.

A man has been arrested for reckless driving following a fatal Los Angeles car accident.  He faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter. Local authorities stated that they do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident that occurred after the driver of a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix attempted to make an illegal U-turn. The passenger door of the Pontiac was hit by a 2011 BMW that was traveling northbound on Corbin Avenue. The 54-year-old driver of the BMW was treated at the hospital. Law enforcement officials do not believe he is at fault for the accident.

The woman who died in the accident was 21-years-old and 9 months pregnant. Her unborn baby girl also died. Law enforcement officials believe that the 33-year-old Pontiac driver is the unborn baby’s father. It is unclear if he was the woman’s boyfriend or husband. He also suffered serious injuries in the accident and was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. Police officers will remain on the scene until he is released.

If you have been injured in a car accident because of a negligent driver, you may be entitled to compensation for your medical bills. You may want to consult with an attorney to discuss your options.
