California authorities investigating fatal bike accident

Some drivers in California do not fully understand how to share the road with bicyclists. They may assume that the rider does not have the right of way or that they should not be on the main road. This is not the case. Bicyclists in California are subjected to the same rules of the roadway as all other drivers. When automobile drivers do not yield for bicycle riders, serious injuries may occur.

Law enforcement officials are still trying to determine the cause of a fatal bicycle accident that occurred in a California residential neighborhood. The accident occurred when a FedEx delivery truck hit a young woman who was riding a bike. The truck driver did cooperate with local authorities at the scene of the accident. Police officers do not believe that the accident occurred because of the speed of the FedEx truck, although the investigation is ongoing.

A local police Sgt. stated that the 22-year-old woman on the bicycle appeared to have the right of way at the intersection where the accident occurred. She was riding eastbound when the northbound truck made a left hand turn and struck her. That same police officer stated that the truck driver did not see the woman.

Drivers should always be on the lookout for bicyclists. When a driver is impaired or distracted on the roadway, they pose a great risk to bicycle riders. If you have been injured in a bicycle accident because of the actions of a negligent driver, you may be entitled to compensation.
